Gmail will be announcing tomorrow that they will be making a big leap into the social space.
Status updates will be enable through Gmail. While this feature sort of already exists through "away messages,' the status updates will become real-time and are also expected to enable a stream of status updates from either Gmail contacts or possibly those in your Twitter/Facebook social graph.
We will know more tomorrow, but right now the big question is whether Gmail will run only its own status updates, which would be a clear sign that they are looking to take on Twitter and Facebook, or if they are planning to aggregate the feeds and present them on a dashboard, similar to TweetDeck.
Stay tuned!
